The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is an Australian Government initiative first introduced in 1991, funded through the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

This free service is aimed at alleviating the loneliness of isolated residents in aged care facilities (nursing homes and hostels) by introducing them to visitors from the community. Often these residents have no surviving relatives or friends, or are located far from family and/or their former home. The trained community volunteers visit them at least once every two weeks and many volunteers are able to visit weekly.

CPSA has coordinated a Community Visitors Scheme since 1991. CPSA has auspiced the CVS in Sydney's inner west from 1991 and in the southern suburbs from 2000. Feedback from both residents and staff of aged care facilities confirms that community visitors provide an invaluable service to residents, contributing significantly to their feelings of well-being. In fact, some residents report a level of compassion and friendship that they have never previously experienced. In turn, the community visitors speak of their respect and affection for residents.
