Pensioners welcome commitment to abolish ID card fee“Pensioners welcome the commitment made by the NSW Liberals and Nationals to abolish the $44 charge for a photo ID card issued by the RTA” said Charmaine Crowe, CPSA Policy Coordinator.
“CPSA has long campaigned for this charge to be scrapped for pensioners, especially when pensioners are entitled to a free driver’s licence. Many pensioners are unable to drive, and therefore require an ID card as a practical form of identification. However, they must pay for it, which is unfair in anyone’s book.”
“To make matters worse, the card is only valid for five years and the fee increases annually as it’s indexed to CPI.”
“The RTA claims that this charge covers the cost of the card’s production. This makes no sense either, when a driver can purchase a replacement licence for $22.”
“CPSA welcomes this commitment, but argues that low income health care card holders should also be entitled to a free ID card.”
“CPSA calls on the NSW Government to match the Opposition’s commitment and to extend it to holders of the low income health care card.” Media contact: 0410 612 182 Charmaine Crowe | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
