Pensioners helped by stamp duty cut, but dental forgotten again

“Age Pensioners welcome the stamp duty exemption for the purchase of a newly-constructed home, which will better enable some pensioners to downsize.”

“However, CPSA calls for this exemption to apply to all homes, rather than newly constructed ones, as done in Victoria. CPSA also calls for the exemption period to be indefinite, rather than restricted to two-years, to help pensioners move to more appropriate housing over the long-term.”

“Pensioners are disappointed that there is no increase in funding for public dental health services, despite severe under-funding in this area.”

“NSW spends the least on public dental health per capita of all states and territories, and the 140,000 people sitting on a waiting list prove it.”

“Expenditure on hospitals is welcome, but there is a huge need for investment in public dental services.”

“Pensioners are also disappointed that the NSW Government hasn’t reformed the Pensioner Local Government Rate Rebate, which has been capped at $250 per annum for 20 years.”

“This is despite huge rises in local government land rates, forcing pensioners to find hundreds of dollars extra each year to cover rate hikes.”
