A mere review of aged care won’t cut it, Minister: CPSA calls for a Royal Commission into Aged Care

"CPSA is concerned that Minister for Aged Care Ken Wyatt's Review of Aged Care Quality Regulatory Processes is pre-ordained to find that the system overall works very well." said Paul Versteege, CPSA Policy Coordinator.

"The announcement by the Minister for Aged Care, Ken Wyatt clarified what he expects the Review of Aged Care Quality Regulatory Processes to find:
'... I want this independent investigation's recommendations to assure me and the community that the regulatory system in residential aged care works effectively.'

"CPSA is convinced, and predicts, that the independent experts will not disappoint the Minister.

"The debacle at the Oakden facility has shown for the umpteenth time that aged care audits, assessments, spot checks and accreditation generally don't do what they are supposed to do."

"CPSA calls for a Royal Commission into Residential Aged Care to root out the widespread abuse and neglect of nursing home residents." said Mr Versteege.
