Pensioners: It may be a hung parliament, but don’t leave us to hang out to dry!

“Pensioners and low-income households want dental put under Medicare, no cuts to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), Pensions and Allowances that keep up with the cost of living, and reform of aged care to put the lives of people being cared for first”, said Charmaine Crowe, CPSA Policy Coordinator.

Pensioners say: “Please explain”: how can a further $1.15b be saved from the PBS without the cost of medicines going up?

“Pensioners don’t see how the Coalition’s saving measure of $1.15 billion within the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) will not drive up the cost of medicines, which are already unaffordable for many,” said CPSA Policy Coordinator Charmaine Crowe.

Pensioners to speak out at Tillegra Dam Forum

“Pensioners and other low-income households in the Hunter are furious that they’re paying for the construction of the Tillegra Dam that hasn’t even been approved”, said CPSA Policy/Research Officer. Community groups, including CPSA, will be speaking at a Community Forum at Newcastle City Hall on Wednesday, 28 July from 6pm. The groups will be asking political representatives whether they will stop Tillegra Dam.

Seniors’ transport concessions: nice if you can afford it

“The reciprocal transport agreement will benefit Seniors Card holders who can afford to travel interstate or who live near a border, but for the rest of the retiree population, it really won’t make much difference at all”, said Charmaine Crowe, Policy Coordinator.
