CPSA appalled by 40% funding cut to Welfare Rights

“CPSA strongly condemns the 40% funding cut to the Welfare Rights Centre announced today, which will hurt the most disadvantaged people in NSW, who NSW Community Services (the funder) claims it supports”, said Charmaine Crowe, Senior Policy Advisor.

Welfare Rights’ media release can be found here: https://www.welfarerights.org.au/news/2013/4/15/welfare-rights-centre-axes-welfare-rights-centre

“The Welfare Rights Centre provides critical casework support for vulnerable individuals and families when they have problems with Centrelink. This work can mean the difference between having an income or not. Its value cannot be overstated – it keeps roofs over heads, supports people to find work and prevents families from falling into extreme poverty.”

“Welfare Rights is the sole provider of such services in NSW. It helps thousands of people each year and relieves pressure on other services.”
