Save Welfare Rights Rally: Today, 12.30, Farrer Place, Sydney

CPSA will today join welfare and community groups including the Australian Council of Social Service and the Single Parents’ Action Group to protest against the 40% funding cut to the NSW Welfare Rights Centre.

“The NSW Welfare Rights Centre has served the NSW community for 30 years. It was the first of its kind in Australia and was set up to ensure that income support recipients get a fair go”, said Senior Policy Advisor Charmaine Crowe.

“CPSA calls for the NSW Government to reverse its decision to cut funding to Welfare Rights.”

“The NSW Government has a responsibility to support its vulnerable citizens. The Welfare Rights Centre supports vulnerable people who have problems with Centrelink. Without access to Welfare Rights, more people would fall into extreme poverty and become homeless because they’ve lost their payments. This has obvious knock-on effects for NSW Government services such as public housing and the health system, which are already under pressure.”
