“CPSA was pleased to receive a letter from NSW Local Government Minister Paul Toole today informing CPSA that, despite a draft recommendation by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal to dismantle the pensioner council rate rebate system, the NSW Government will keep the pensioner council rate rebate”, said CPSA Policy Coordinator Paul Versteege.
“CPSA has been a staunch campaigner against the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal’s recommendation to cancel the pensioner council rate rebate in favour of a reverse mortgage type arrangement, which would have disadvantaged vulnerable pensioners.”
“CPSA calls on the NSW Government to separately review the pensioner council rate rebate together with the water and wastewater rebates provided by councils. These rebates have not been increased for more than twenty years.”
