“Pensioners in NSW are pleased that their rebates and concessions will continue to be funded over the next three years. However, they a disappointed that rebates such as the Council Rate Rebate remain unchanged, despite not having increased in over two decades”, said Charmaine Crowe, Senior Advisor, Research & Advocacy.

Most pensioners safe, but more detail needed on asset test tightening

“The changes to the pension asset test will shield the majority of pensioners from budget cuts, which is welcome. Tightening the asset test is a far fairer way of reducing pension spending than slowing indexation of the pension which would have hurt those least able to afford it,” said Amelia Christie, Manager Research & Advocacy.
