“Outrageous comments made by the Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF) have angered pensioners who do the right thing and use public transport”, said CPSA Policy Coordinator Charmaine Crowe (Pensioners clogging up public transport1).
“The TTF must be living in La La Land if they think that cutting pensioner transport concessions during peak hour will ‘fix’ public transport problems”.
“What happens if pensioners have a 9am medical appointment? Or if they volunteer between 9 and 5? If the TTF had their way, they should be slugged for ‘clogging’ up the system”.
“Concessions should be expanded to others on low incomes rather than be cut back.”
“The TTF should be encouraging greater use of public transport; not proposing ill-thought through policies that discourage people from using it”.
