CPSA welcomes NSW Government’s commitment to upgrading the XPT regional rail fleet

"CPSA congratulates the NSW Government on fulfilling its commitment to improving rail services in rural and regional New South Wales with the allocation of $50 million to fast-track the upgrade of the XPT fleet" said Ellis Blaikie, Senior Policy Adviser.

"This is big news for rural and regional NSW, and for CPSA which has been campaigning to have the ageing XPT rail fleet replaced for many years.

"News of the XPT fleet upgrade follows hot on the heels of the recently finalised intercity fleet upgrade. Both upgrades are of enormous and particular benefit to older Australians.

"The XPT trains are twenty years past their use-by-date, so we are happy to hear that the extra funding allocated by the NSW Government will be used to purchase new trains in 2017, two years ahead of schedule." said Ms Blaikie.
